Year 7 and Year 9: The Globe Theatre & The Clink Prison Museum

Year 8: The Natural History Museum

Our Year 8 cohort were treated with a day at the Natural History Museum, where they got to investigate the science behind earthquakes and volcanoes, their impacts as well as understand some of the strategies and technology that help reduce the destructive effects of these natural hazards.

Year 10 and Year 12: The 10-Shot Film Challenge

As part of the City Curriculum Day, Year 10 and 12 students worked on a project-based learning task with Ed from the One Day Film School.

They learned about types of shots, editing techniques and responsibilities of different roles in the film industry and then explored one of Polti’s 5 Dramatic premises to create a short film. Each group had a Director, Producer, Screenwriter, Actors and Camera crew. They were seen gallivanting all over the school building their films and they produced some outstanding final pieces featuring several outstanding staff cameos and brilliant performance and technical work from the girls themselves. At 3.00pm we held an Oscars award ceremony. The standard was very high, so after deliberation between the judges, the following prizes were awarded:

Best Actor: Katya (Year 10)

Best Technical Achievement: ‘For Sale’ Tavy (Year 12), Farley (Year 12), Elisa (Year 12), Matilde (Year 10), Lailou (Year 10), Sophia (Year 10), Kayta (Year 10)

Best Picture: ‘If Looks Could Kill’ – Saffron (Year 12), Daria (Year 12), Eenes (Year 12), Sarah (Year 10), Natalie (Year 10), Gabby (Year 10)

The judges were particularly impressed by the excellent performances and high standard of camerawork, editing and sound design. Congratulations to the winning teams – hope to see you at the (real) Oscars!
