Izzy and Fran from Lower Sixth write about the Sixth Form taster day offered to Year 10 students organised by their year group:
The Sixth Form was transformed into an exhibition of future opportunity, sparking an inspiration for the Year 10s, as they had their first A-Level introduction day. Each classroom and table illustrated the array of subjects; from Politics, History, Religious Studies, Maths, and more; combining to be a total of 22 subjects. Current Year 12 students filled their minds with wonder as they helped Year 10 explore the coming years of learning, seeking and engaging with new and gripping subjects, which ultimately get them ready for university life. As the Year 10s flipped through books and courses, talked to teachers and students, they learned that this independent life would soon be there, and their excitement began to rise. The bubbling atmosphere pushed the Year 10s to start thinking of their A-Level futures, but also their futures beyond school life.
After the tours and introduction to the exciting subjects More House Sixth Form has to offer, the Year 10s had the opportunity to ask questions to a podium of eager Sixth Formers – who enlightened the year group about life on the top floor. Year 10 was introduced to the concept of EPQ (Extended Project Qualification), allowing them to begin to contemplate what topic they would like to pursue once joining the Sixth Form, and understand the freedom and creativity EPQ supplies a student with, alongside the valuable researching skills it provides. Further enlightenment about the incomparable sense of community and companionship the More House Sixth Form has to offer was presented to students. The small classes, which allow pupils to gain a devoted and personalised guidance from teachers, and close-knit community amongst the girls in the Sixth Form was met with a comedic response through the atmosphere being compared to radiating a ‘big fat family’. At the end of the session, pupils were filled with knowledge and excitement, allowing them to passionately ponder the image of them as a fellow Sixth Former, and begin to unclasp the numerous opportunities the More House Sixth Form has to offer students.
