World Book Day was created by UNESCO on 23rd April 1995 as a worldwide celebration of books and reading. The first World Book Day in the UK and Ireland took place in 1997 to encourage young people to discover the pleasure of reading. World Book Day is marked by over 100 countries around the globe.
At More House reading is important every day – but that doesn’t mean that we don’t love to celebrate World Book Day.
With no one at school to decorate their form door this year, it has been a different celebration. Mrs Garwood and the English Department made sure that there was still fun to be had. In their English lessons throughout the week girls have been busily making models of what they imagine the bedroom of their favourite character (such as Matilda, Hermione Granger, Harry Potter, etc.) to look like, challenged to tell a story in six words and take part in some extreme reading. Something that More House staff also had great fun taking part in.
