The week before half term the Year 7s enjoyed five full days of learning in Hyde Park during our inaugural Year 7 Park School experience. At More House, we recognise the importance of equipping our students with the skills they need, not just in the classroom, but for life. Year 7 Park School is such an experience and provided opportunities for the Year 7s to explore the wider world beyond the curriculum, in the outdoors, with a focus on developing relationships, building resilience and celebrating creativity.
This year’s theme for Year 7 Park School was “Take another look.” Through a series of carefully planned, pedagogically rich activities, each student had the opportunity to take another look at themselves, their peers and their environment. The Year 7s loved the outdoor activities and enjoyed learning about scientific method, playing team games, going on treasure hunts, reflecting on the beauty of God’s creation and participating in a mobile photography competition. The feedback from the students was fantastic with many of them asking for a similar event next year in Year 8 (watch this space!).
The week in the park culminated in The Experience, during which the Year 7s invited the Year 12s to a mini Park School experience. They worked as a team to plan the morning and then led next year’s school leaders in a number of activities they had enjoyed over the course of the week.
A huge thank you to the staff for creating an academically rich and enjoyable curriculum for the week and to the Year 12s for joining in on the fun. A very special thank you must go to the Year 7s for their enthusiasm.
