Gabriella left More House in 2007 after studying History, Classical Civilisation and Philosophy & Ethics. She then took a gap year before heading to the University of West England where she read Criminology and Psychology.
She started her career within the Civil Service in the Cabinet Office working in the resourcing team for the Major Projects Authority. This department dealt with high net worth projects such as the Sellafield Nuclear Plant and Universal Credits.
Her career in the service progressed with her moving to the Serious Fraud Office and then onto a team that specialised in immigration. In particular, the points based system for immigrants entering the UK to ensure that we were attracting talent into the country, particularly at graduate level.
My Classics teacher instilled such a love of the subject in me that over lockdown, I set myself the task of reading five classics such as Troy.
Gabriella describes her role as ever changeable with milestones having to be met and them often moving due to events like us leaving the EU. Her role has involved her reporting to the Home Office and the Prime Minister. She is now a Portfolio Reporting Analysis Lead which involves looking at programmes that meet the Government Major Projects Portfolio threshold and departmental critical level programmes.
She describes her role as requiring resilience, moving at an incredibly fast past and there never being a dull day. Working within the Civil Service has enabled Gabriella to work with many different business sectors which she has found incredibly interesting and illuminating.
Gabriella still remembers More House fondly and has retained many friendships from her time here. She said that her Classics teacher instilled such a love of the subject in her that over lockdown she set herself the task of reading five classics such as Troy and when she travels she is drawn to places with a rich historical background.
